Shooting this wedding actually started months before for me. Ryan, a good buddy and someone I snowboard with often, asked if I would hike a backcountry run with him and his then girlfriend Krista. When we reached the summit he dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him, and I was waiting camera in hand. To be able to capture everything from engagement to wedding was awesome.
The wedding itself happened the next fall at the Las Rocas resort, a beautiful ocean front hotel in Northern Baja. I spent the day with KJ and Ryan, bouncing between both rooms as they got ready for their day. The hotel grounds stretch all along the coastal cliffs, giving us so many options to shoot the two of them with their groomsmen and bridesmaids.
Ryan and KJ decided to keep things traditional, not seeing each other until she walked down the isle, and the moment was perfect. You could see the love and excitement on Ryan’s face as she turned the corner. A close friend married the couple as a cool ocean breeze made for the perfect afternoon. Toasts were raised as the sun set and every one in attendance was in a mix of laughs and tears. Once dinner finished the dance floor opened up, and I have to say it was one of the most energetic wedding dance parties I’ve ever seen. Enclosed in a cliffside bungalow, the coupled their friends danced the night away.
