The Rauh's

Weddings are emotional days to start, but Brian and Emily’s day was especially so. I’ve been close with Emily’s family since I was in high school, and in turn have known Brian and Emily since they first started dating. When Emily first asked me to shoot her wedding the dates didn’t work so I had to unfortunately decline. Months later Emily got back in touch, her mom Alina had been sick for some time and things had gotten worse. They made the decision to have a very small ceremony before the big wedding day to ensure that Alina could be there to see the two of them make their commitment to each other.

The wedding was beautiful. Emily and Brian exchanged their vows on the back of a boat cruising through Newport Harbor, with just their immediate famiy in attendance. It was an afternoon full of joy and smiles, and while there were tears, it was truly a day of love. Brian’s uncle officiated the ceremony, telling heartfelt stories about each person on board and their importance to the couples relationship. As we continued to motor through the afternoon I snuck the couple up to the front of the boat for their portraits. Shooting with the ever-changing background of the bay was amazing. We made it back just before the sun hit the horizon, jumped in my truck, and raced to the beach for the last bit of light. The night finished off with dinner at Brian’s Aunt and Uncle’s, full of more stories and more laughs.

Shortly after the wedding Alina went to be with the Lord. She was an amazing woman who truly touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Being able to capture Brian and Emily’s wedding with her mom there was an honor and something I am so glad I was able to do for their families. The pure joy and love in the photos of Alina helping Emily get ready for her wedding day is something I will never forget.
